Slip Resistance Testing

One of the key components of safety is defining how slippery the floor is; this is known as its ‘slip resistance’. In fact, The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 stipulate that floors must not be slippery so that they put people’s safety at risk. CSMI provides site-based services for the measurement of slip or skid resistance for a wide range of paving and flooring surfaces. CSMI has two certified XL Tribometrists on staff to assist in the analysis of slip and fall accidents.

  • Architects – to advise on the slip resistance of specified products
  • Contractors – to ensure that products are fit for application prior to installation
  • Attorneys – to assist in factual investigation of accidents to determine the slip resistance of floor materials involved in slip and fall accidents and other incidents
  • Insurance Adjusters – to determine the wet or dry slip resistance of floor materials in accident investigation and for insurance coverage/policy formulation purposes
  • Business and Building Owners – to determine if cleaning and maintenance activities are sufficient for maintaining slip resistance
